The Cleanse, Part 1 – Day 1

When I put the word cleanse into Wikipedia I got to choose from either being clean or detoxification, so I chose the later. Here is what is says: “Detoxification is an alternative medicine approach that proponents claim rids the body of “toxins”, accumulated harmful substances that are alleged to exert undesirable effects on individual health. Body cleansing is not supported by science, with no medical benefits demonstrated, and is based on questionable or disproved scientific claims. The toxins are usually undefined, with no evidence (or inappropriately used testing) for toxic accumulation in the patient.”

That’s a lot of qualifiers and arguments used to describe something; claim, alleged to, not supported by science, no medical benefits demonstrated, based on questionable or disproved scientific claims, undefined, no evidence or inappropriately used testing. Oh, what do they know anyway, right? It was probably paid for by the fast food industry.

I like the first sentence “rids the body of “toxins”, accumulated harmful substances that are alleged to exert undesirable effects on individual health.” So I’m going with that. I know I have tons and tons of toxins in my body that are harmful and have exerted undesirable effects on my health – not the least of which is quite a bit of extra weight, fatigue and assorted other issues that I don’t care to share here.

With that in mind, I’m starting my first ever cleanse. I’m kinda surprised this is my first time since I’ve tried every diet known to man and woman – at least twice – but never a cleanse. Whenever my friends told me they were doing a cleanse, I thought it was drastic and crazy. But desperate times call for desperate measures, right? So, here I go – day one of nine – 2 days of shakes and one 400 – 600 calorie meal, then two days of no food, just shakes and other stuff they give you, then 4 days of shakes and one meal and finally, two more days of no food.

I chose the chocolate flavored shake because – well, I love chocolate. However, this mixes up very thick and isn’t that tasty. I thought of putting in a packet or two of sweetener, but then that would defeat the purpose of the cleanse, wouldn’t it?

Let’s see what happens and I’ll fill you in on the details of what kind of cleanse, why I choose that one and other assorted questions that I’m sure will keep you up at night. Tune in tomorrow …..
