Italy Day 1

Maryann, Janice, Lynn, Ilene and I flew together from Phoenix to Charlotte where we picked up Sheri who originated in Detroit.  After an uneventful 8.5 hour flight we arrived in Rome and stayed at the Euro House overnight.  Jana and Lisa came in on earlier flights and stayed at the HIlton Garden with Sandy who arrived from her cruise.  Lynn and Lisa went into Rome for the day and the rest of us relaxed, went to lunch, relaxed and went to dinner.  We all met up the next morning with Luciano our driver picked us up for our 3 hour drive to Assisi in Umbria and our 4 night stay at Malvarina.

My Goal – Accomplished!

My goal was to lose enough weight by the Italy trip so I would feel comfortable traveling.  Mission accomplished!  So far I have lost 40 pounds.  I’m very proud of myself.  Now I’m off to take 8 Wild Boomer Women to Italy tomorrow and plan to eat pasta and gelato every day!  I know from previous experience in Italy that I will be walking so much I will not gain any weight.  Stay tuned for our daily adventures on the trip.

THE FIRST WEIGH IN – I think my scale is broken!

I had to go on the scale three times and it was the same each time – an 11.2 pound weight loss in 4 days!  Not to mention 12 inches.  The thing I notice most?  My wrists are normal size again, instead of being all swollen like a fat lady.  And my ankles are ankles again – not kankles!  Ken Ludwig, from Go Cleanse is my coach and he is walking me through this step-by-step and explaining that it is not possible to lose 11 pounds of water, or else you would be dead.  It’s the toxins that have been storing themselves in my fat cells that have started moving out because of the enormous amount of water I’ve been drinking, not to mention the limited caloric intake.

So today I was back to 2 shakes and 1 meal – but the shake filled me up in the morning so I wasn’t rushing to eat.  Tonight I went to a happy hour event and had a few raw shrimp because I know I didn’t get in all my calories for lunch but just couldn’t eat any more.  Feeling great and looking great!  And people are noticing – even saying my skin looks great – which has a lot to do with releasing the toxins.

OK, I’m in for the long haul – 79 more pounds to go – next Friday I start on the 30 day race to maintenance.  That’s 5 days with two meals and two shakes and two days of cleanse – repeated 3 more times.  Cute clothes here I come!

Cleanse Part 2 – Day 2

It’s 9pm and I just got home from a meeting – there was food there but I just ignored it. I really have not been hungry for 2 days – kind of amazing for me – but I will say that I am so ready to eat food tomorrow. I’m just craving a piece of salmon and steamed broccoli for lunch – I’ll probably dream about it. I didn’t get quite as much water in today – because the morning was shot – woke up for a bit, went back to sleep and slept really hard – could have slept the whole day if the repair guy wasn’t coming over. So I didn’t really get it together till after noon – but I’m still pushing it and will be up for another couple of hours, so I’ll do my best.

I like the daily email I get from Go Cleanse and it includes a 15 or so minute audio which really addressed my temporary nausea and headache – but I was able to sleep it away. So, tomorrow morning the first thing after I pee is to weigh and measure myself again – now that I’ve been doing the cleanse for 4 days. Should be interesting.

Part 2 – Day 1 – Foodless, Mostly

Here it is 10pm and I’m feeling remarkably good.  I have energy too!  How is that possible?  I have had 4 glasses of water with 2 scoops of cleansing stuff, a total of 6 almonds (2 at a time with lots of water throughout the day) and ¼ apple – for energy – and it worked.  I have also consumed a gallon of water – you read that right – a gallon!

I made sure I had nothing much on the schedule today and tomorrow during this phase of the cleanse.  I did take a few naps but I also went out to an event from 6:30 – 9:30 and had no problem!  I know tomorrow will be just as smooth.

CLEANSE – PART 1 – DAY 2

I wasn’t hungry when I woke up – I was still kinda sick to my stomach from all the damage I did over the weekend, and especially Sunday night – that old night before the diet – when I eat everything in site because I am never, ever again in life going to have access to that food – how crazy is that? Yet how many times in my life have I done the same thing? Well, this is all about breaking old patterns – or so I’m told by Ken, my coach. He’s good – very good – and tells me exactly how to do every day of the cleanse – if I didn’t have a call with him today I probably wouldn’t be going on to the real cleanse days tomorrow and Thursday – where there is no food – to speak of, unless you call 2 almonds every few hours, but only if I need them (are you serious) along with my cleanse drink, not to be confused with my chocolate shake that I don’t get to have on cleanse days.

But back to today. I waited too long to have my shake because I had a meeting – and by the time it was done I really needed it – then I took a nap because I was really tired. Woke up, did some errands, including going to the grocery store so I could get my supplies for the next two days – dry roasted almonds and organic applies. Mind you I can only have 1/4 of the apply and/or 2 almonds if I need them (seriously) oh and water. I’m supposed to drink a gallon of water a day – do you know how much a gallon of water is? A LOT!  And can we talk about going to the grocery store where there is lots and lots of  food and you can’t have any of it?  Not fun – but I’m told it’s better to go to the grocery store on shake days then it is on cleanse days, so I went today.

Ken told me 20% of the results happen tomorrow and 80% happen the second day – the real cleansing of the toxins “so don’t cheat” he tells me. Before he told me this I was already planning to cheat. Yes, you read that right – I was planning to cheat. And then I realized something. It’s just another way I have always sabotaged myself and set myself up for failure – only in this one thing in life – my weight – but it is the predominate force in my life, so I’m glad I had that realization so early into the process.

So, I’m going to do it – two days is a piece of cake – ok, I know I shouldn’t use that term – it’s a walk in the park, which, by the way, I just did. Not a walk in the park, but I did, for the very first time since I moved to this house in February, take my dogs for a walk around the block. Hard to believe, I know – I haven’t even been able to motivate myself to do that – but that’s in the past – and I’m only looking forward. Wish me luck. If I’m not dead, you’ll hear more from me tomorrow night.

The Cleanse, Part 1 – Day 1

When I put the word cleanse into Wikipedia I got to choose from either being clean or detoxification, so I chose the later. Here is what is says: “Detoxification is an alternative medicine approach that proponents claim rids the body of “toxins”, accumulated harmful substances that are alleged to exert undesirable effects on individual health. Body cleansing is not supported by science, with no medical benefits demonstrated, and is based on questionable or disproved scientific claims. The toxins are usually undefined, with no evidence (or inappropriately used testing) for toxic accumulation in the patient.”

That’s a lot of qualifiers and arguments used to describe something; claim, alleged to, not supported by science, no medical benefits demonstrated, based on questionable or disproved scientific claims, undefined, no evidence or inappropriately used testing. Oh, what do they know anyway, right? It was probably paid for by the fast food industry.

I like the first sentence “rids the body of “toxins”, accumulated harmful substances that are alleged to exert undesirable effects on individual health.” So I’m going with that. I know I have tons and tons of toxins in my body that are harmful and have exerted undesirable effects on my health – not the least of which is quite a bit of extra weight, fatigue and assorted other issues that I don’t care to share here.

With that in mind, I’m starting my first ever cleanse. I’m kinda surprised this is my first time since I’ve tried every diet known to man and woman – at least twice – but never a cleanse. Whenever my friends told me they were doing a cleanse, I thought it was drastic and crazy. But desperate times call for desperate measures, right? So, here I go – day one of nine – 2 days of shakes and one 400 – 600 calorie meal, then two days of no food, just shakes and other stuff they give you, then 4 days of shakes and one meal and finally, two more days of no food.

I chose the chocolate flavored shake because – well, I love chocolate. However, this mixes up very thick and isn’t that tasty. I thought of putting in a packet or two of sweetener, but then that would defeat the purpose of the cleanse, wouldn’t it?

Let’s see what happens and I’ll fill you in on the details of what kind of cleanse, why I choose that one and other assorted questions that I’m sure will keep you up at night. Tune in tomorrow …..
